  1. "Pursuit of Happiness" Motivational Speech:

This speech, by Will Smith, is highly effective in its intent. It is motivational due to Smith's word choice and authoritative figure. It doesnt lack much, and I like the speech because it clearly incites emotion and motivation in Smith's on-screen son.

  2. Rocky Balboa: This is a very effective motivational speach. The speaker uses effective volume use. His most valuable, or motivational, points are spoken loudly and with more passion than the other things he says. This speach is full of emotion and pride. It is well spoken. I don't see anything that makes it lacking in the motivational department. Everything he says has meaning to the audience he is speaking to.

  3. Rocky Balboa motivational speech:
this speech was very serious and motivational. As Stylone's character explains how the man has to "take the hits" he explains the rewards behind them. He stresses that nothing comes to you without work. I liked everything about the speech, although he yelled at some points, it was for passion, not anger.

In "the pursuit of happiness", Will Smith's character delivers an average motivational speech, although it was very emotional, it was repetetive and has been the topic of many speeches before. His quiet tone and the way he talks to his son is very innocent, because the boy is young.

    Pursuit of Happiness
The speech, for me, worked. You could tell he was speaking from his heart and that he was serious about his topic. It was effective and motivational for me to listen to. I like that, although he wasn’t loud, you could tell he was passionate; he really believes. It was a bit short, which made it lack a little more content. But, his composure and tone made it work; he didn’t need the extra detail. I could feel his emotion coming through his words. Overall, the speech just worked and evoked – every word was genuine and heartfelt and held a quiet power.

    Ruben Gonzalez
This speech, for me, did not work. His tone and composure was quite still (so to say). It felt like it was rehearsed and didn’t hold the necessary power to be motivational. It was monotone and had a lot of content that I felt didn’t help me. It had some aspects that worked in his favor, like his passion, which was a little evident. But, it didn’t have that potent bang element(s) to it.

  5. Will Smith uses his speech of going out there and getting what you want by using slow paced, tears in his eyes, and for the viewers music that kept up the speech. Rockey Balboa was making his speech, hardly able to be heard and still tried to talk about never giving up.

  6. "Rocky Balboa" Motivational Speech:

In this speech, Rocky presents himself as motivational and passionate about his topic. As he explains to his audience what must be done to yearn success, he identifies the benefits that will come from working and trying hard. I liked the speech because it shows what a true motivational speech is, and Rocky's excitement and energy convey the real message of what he is trying to say.

  7. The motivational speech from the Pursuit of Happiness was very effective. It was only about 50 seconds long but Will Smith quickly got to the point. The speech did not drag on at all, yet he got his point across. He spoke with a lot of emotion and I could tell he meant every single word he said to his son. This speech was extremely motivational and I felt like he was talking to me personally. If I was giving this speech in class, I would add in examples and more information. However, I tihnk for the movie it was perfect. I liked this speech because Will Smith does not use big, fancy words. He speaks the way he does every day. He pauses at all the right moments and raises his voice at the right time. His voice is strong and he speaks every word clearly.

In Tony Robbins' motivational speech on the power of clarity and purpose, Tony has a very strong, manly voice which keeps the attention of his viewers. He also uses many hand gestures to express what he's saying. He changes his tone quite frequently, depending on the content. He checks in with his viewers and asks for their opinion from time to time. This involvement helps the effectiveness of his speech. He walks around and gives personal examples and stories. He mentions places like Copley Square, and asks who's been there before. Everything he does involves the audience and holds their attention. I liked his speech. I do not think it really lacks anything. If anything I think he could have shortened it because at times it seemed he repeated himself in a different way.

  8. "Pursuit to Happyness"
For me the speech felt very motivational and I was evoked. The speech worked for me. It was coming from his heart and he mean every word he was saying. It was a bit short though. I would have liked to see it be at least 2 minutes long. I feel as though it slipped off his tounge and it was rehearsed. I like that he is sincere and shows a caring attitude towards his son.

    'What is Creativity' Brian Tracy
I feel the speech didn't work as well as I thought it would. I felt as though it was highly rehearsed and he was reading from a prompter. I did like his use of props, such as the white board and markers to write things down. His explanations behind the speech back up his argument. Overall, I felt as though this was a speech that could either effect people in a negative way or a positive way.

    “Pursuit of Happiness”
The speech was definitely effective for me, it was heartfelt and touching and you could clearly see that Will Smith’s words were genuine and meaningful. I definitely think it was motivational because all people should aspire to fulfill their dreams and be the best they can be no matter what. The speech doesn’t really lack much; it’s very effective and clearly gets a good message across. I really liked the speech because it’s something everyone can relate to no matter what. The points that he mentions are valid and overall it’s a touching speech.

    “Rocky Balboa”
Rocky Balboa’s speech was another speech that got me going and really motivated me while listening to it. It was another effective speech because it had a lot of energy and passion; you could tell everything Rocky said was straight from the heart. It wasn’t dreary or rehearsed, rather it was filled with compassion and the important things were said with increased volume to highlight the importnace. It was definitely motivational because it brought up another topic that anyone can relate to: not giving up and making the best of what you have. The speech contains everything a motivational speech would have. I like the speech because it was filled with emotion and the presentation of the speech was climactic and meaningful.

  10. BRYCE MCCARTHY

    Steve Jobs:
Steve Jobs, when delivering the speech, is a recognized figure of power and success stories. Ergo, his speech already has an appeal to ethos. He tells a good story, but Jobs is not a very moving speaker. With more nethusiasm, this speech would be much better.

    Les Brown:
Brown is a professional motivation speaker, so he carries his speech very well. However, his cockiness in manner is extremely noticable and makes him seem arrogant. Brown is the stereotypical motivational speaker, who seems like he is all talk and no substance. If Brown had more substance to his speech it would be a really good lecture.

  11. Les Brown:
One thing that Brown does well when speaking is that he gets the audience involved. He speaks clearly and simply, and carries himself very well. However, what he is speaking about is incredibly redundant and not even significant to anyone or anything. Though he does have a lot of talent, which he uses to enthuse an audience about absolutely nothing.

    Steve Jobs:
One thing I like about his speech is his sense of honesty. He speaks about certain past experiences, and say how they affected his future and career in general. It wasn't the most "motivational", so to speak, but was still a good speech.

  12. Response to Steve Jobs' Stanford Commencement speech | Matthew Litchfield
In his speech to the Stanford grads, Steve Jobs presents them with lessons he has learned in his life. Jobs' speech is motivating because in a way, it challenges his listeners to follow up on the advice he gives them: to become to next great thing. His life experiences give him a solid platform to share his motivational message.
I really love Jobs' eloquence - there is a certain amount of euphony in his chose of words that makes his story seem nearly poetic. He really unifies each of his three stories by giving his deepest, sincerest thoughts on each. He is known as one of the greatest speakers and presenters - one of the greatest men - of this era, and I definitely agree after listening to his speech.

  13. Rocky Balboa Speech: This speech was an example of a simple yet motivational speech. The body language of Rocky, including pointing and other hand gestures, added emphasis to what he was saying. He always challenged his audience to "take the hits" in life, and to move forward. This type of motivation was further expressed through Rocky continually raising his voice. I liked the message of this speech and the strong delivery of it. I also admire how Rocky put the purpose of the message into terms which his audience would understand: boxing. Overall, this speech was both motivational and effective; it did not lack any necessary elements.

The Pursuit of Happiness Speech: This speech was somewhat effect and somewhat motivational. It used very simple terms and wording such as "If you want something, go get it", which was appropriate for his audience, a child, yet this would not be appropriate for more mature audiences. Will Smith effectively utilized pauses in his speech which I liked. If anything, this speech lacks substance and more advanced sentencing.

  14. Pursuit of Happiness:
This is a very effective speech because he changes tones and allow the audience to get ingaged with what he’s saying. It’s even more effective because it is being told to a child, so it makes the speech more powerful because if you were in the little kids shoes, the speech would seem so overpowering and even more intense than if it was being told to an adult. I like the setting of the speech and I like how he used simple words and simple terms to get his point across. I think that since the speech took place on a rainy day beside a fence, it made you pay a lot more attention to him and the setting around him.

    Rocky Balboa:
The effectiveness of this speech is overpowering because it focuses a lot on the tone of his voice and when he raises his voice it shows the emotion that he feels for what he’s talking about. I also think that since he’s saying it to an older guy, it makes it more effective and it shows that that person must have messed up and is getting the consiquences of his actions. I think it’s very motivational because of the way he says things and the way he makes metephors to strength. I wouldn’t change anything about it.

  15. Rocky Balboa

Rocky is extremely passionate and emotional while telling his audience how life is. It throws a lot of punches and the only thing to do is keep moving forward. The only way to go about this is to stop blaming others for your problems and stop being a coward. The point is not to let life knock you down and, if it does, to get right back up because you can be strong.

    Will Smith's Running And Reading

Will Smith persuades his audience to run and read, with only a few reasons why. He believes that the only people who succeed are those who work hard. As you run, you may or may not get tired and want to stop. However, if you go against the voice in your head and endure the heavy breathing and sore muscles, nothing will be able to stop you and you will never quit anything you do. He entices his audience to read, knowing that everyone has problems, by telling them that there isn't a single problem in the world that no body has written the solution to. He motivates his audience to do these things so that they will be successful and be able to endure the troubles they will face.

  16. Steve Jobs, the great innovator behind revolutionary companies like Apple and Pixar, delivered an amazing graduation speech to the Stanford class of 2005. While he is clearly nervous and makes very little eye contact with the audience, he makes up for it with amazing analogies and succeeds in crafting a fantastic motivational speech.

  17. In da Rocky Balboa Speech, motivation pours out of my ears. His emotion, his tone, his large stature, his metaphors, and his remarkable slurred words thrust inspiration upon me and motivate me to reach beyond the person that I am right now. Perhaps it is lacking in clarity of articulation, but other than that it is very effective.

In the pursuit of Happiness speech, Will Smith gives an adorable speech about character to his wittle son. He tells him not to let anyone or anything get in his way, and his character, emotion, and integrity take his words to a whole new level. The setting is a little bit lacking, but it is a very good speech.

  18. "You Want Something. Go get it. Period." | Will Smith - Pursuit of Happiness | Matthew Litchfield
In a brief monologue to a small child, Smith pushes to the child the idea that he should never let someone tell him he can't do something. The brevity of his motivational speech and each sentence is halting. There's an impact to each simple word, but it really feels as though he wants to motivate himself more than the child. He wants everyone to chase their dreams, though, and for that he should be commended.

  19. Rocky Balboa's speech is marginally effective. It is motivational because of who he is, and he does a good job of emphasizing certain points using the volume of his voice,

  20. Tony Robbins: "Clarity and purpose"
I thought this speech was very effective, mainly because the speaker really engaged the audience's minds. His points about setting clear, specific goals and figuring out how to achieve them caused the audience to self-reflect and think deeply about what they want from life. I also like the fact that the speaker discussed the role of psychology in our emotional and spiritual well-being, as I am a strong believer in the impact of psychology on everyday life.

  21. I wish I could have met Steve Jobs, because he sounds like he was funny guy. He makes points that some may see as offensive or abnormal, like his dropping out of college being the best decision of his life. He's very candid, but his appeal to ethos is what commands his speech. I mean come on, this guy not only founded Apple, but he created Pixar too.

The scene from Pursuit of Happyness is a good example of short and sweet. It's very emotion because of the context (Will Smith's character is speaking to his own son, and not just an audience). The emotion plus the impact of his words are what drive the speech.

  22. Pursuit of Happiness
I enjoyed the whole film, and seen it numerous times. A lot of emotion behind Will Smith's character gives others hope and to change others and continues them to go that extra mile to do what they believe in, when you believe in something follow it until the end of time. Not really lacking anything at all. I don't see anyone really disliking this speech, because this is the inspiration most of us need and we can all relate to that.

  23. The Pursuit Of Happines speech was the best out of three that I watched. Just the way Will Smith talked in a calm, but direct tone sent shivers down my spine. Even though the idea behind the speech was cliche he was still able to speak to me on a whole other level. The way he spoke was the reason for the speech being so good, and not necissarilly its content.

The Rocky Balboa speech was not as good. Sylvester Stalone took a more agressive approach. He shoved his thoughs into you with his yelling. This tactic may work for some people, or in various situations like sporting events. However this approach was a little less heart felt. I could not hear any sincerity in his voice. The way he talked proved to be the downfall of this speech. It could have been better if he did a little less yelling, and used more of a heart to heart tone of voice.
